The Cutty Sark - re-building the nation's heritage...

Brooks Bros is immensely proud to be a major supplier to the two-year long project to restore the famous 138-year old clipper. The Cutty Sark Trust is using over 130 m3 of Brooks Bros FSC-Certified Teak in its unique conservation project – some of it in 10m long boards! For the technicians in charge of the work the value of the FSC-Certified Teak was two-fold. Firstly, it replicates the original hardwoods used on the vessel and has the durability required to withstand the foot traffic of such a popular visitor attraction. Secondly, it meets the rigorous standards for environmentally accredited materials to which the project must adhere.

“As well as providing a complete and professional service, Brooks Bros has supplied exceptional quality certified timber.” (Richard Doughty, Chief Executive, Cutty Sark Trust)

Despite the well-publicised fire on the vessel, the good news is that only 5% of the original timbers were damaged and the project is now back on track. Donations to aid The Cutty Sark Conservation Programme can be made at www.cuttysark.org.uk

“Brooks Bros has been a great help in our conservation project on Cutty Sark as it has provided us with the FSC-approved teak which we need for our specialist work. The wood is of excellent quality.” (Julia Parker, Operations Director, Cutty Sark Enterprises)

“A reliable source of FSC teak is as essential to Kenham as the quality of
teak we use. Finishing to exacting standards is Kenham's hallmark and the
results at Blue Bird Cottage speak for themselves.”

Timber Trade Federation affiliation

“Brooks Bros are longstanding members of the UK Timber Trade Federation and as such are committed to trading in legal and sustainable timber, under our code of conduct. They are clearly taking this commitment seriously by signing up to the TTF Responsible Purchasing Policy, and by actively working with suppliers throughout the world, to source legal and sustainable timber. This policy has resulted in some prestigious contracts for Brooks Bros, which we hope will encourage other suppliers to follow the Brook Bros’ example”
